Official Netflix Teaser Trailer MusicThe decision to anchor the promotional campaign around Austin psych-rock outfit The Black Angels sets an immediate tone of raw adrenaline and lingering tragedy. Taken from their 2006 debut album Passover, the track is propelled by tribal tom-toms and a heavy drone that captures the psychological weight of wartime service. Its title, drawn from war poetry, delivers a poignant thematic undercurrent for collegiate athletes about to step from the gridiron into the Pacific theater.
The Brotherhood, The Game, and The Pacific Front
Production OverviewBased on Pulitzer Prize-winning author Buzz Bissinger's non-fiction book The Mosquito Bowl: A Game of Life and Death in World War II, the film adaptation directed by Peter Berg explores an astonishing true chapter of American sports and military history. In the immediate aftermath of Pearl Harbor, dozens of the nation's premier college football players, including All-Americans, Heisman contenders, and future professional athletes, walked away from national acclaim to enlist in the United States Marine Corps.
Stationed on the Pacific island of Guadalcanal on Christmas Eve in 1944, members of the 4th and 29th Marine Regiments staged an impromptu, full-contact football contest on a hand-cleared dirt field surrounded by jungle. Dubbed the Mosquito Bowl, the game served as a poignant final display of youthful camaraderie before both regiments were dispatched into the cataclysmic Battle of Okinawa, where fifteen of the players were killed in action.
Berg, known for his kinetic direction in Lone Survivor and Friday Night Lights, collaborates with co-writer Mark L. Smith (The Revenant) and an ensemble cast led by Nicholas Galitzine, Bill Skarsgård, Ray Nicholson, and Tom Francis. The Mosquito Bowl opens in select theaters on October 30, 2026, followed by its worldwide streaming debut on Netflix on November 25, 2026.

Composers • Original Instrumental ScoreIn a notable creative reunion, Peter Berg teams once again with Texas instrumental post-rock outfit Explosions in the Sky. Their collaborative partnership on 2004's Friday Night Lights revolutionized sports cinema scoring, introducing expansive guitar textures and cathartic, slow-building crescendos that elevated athletic drama into profound emotional storytelling.
For The Mosquito Bowl, the band's trademark interplay of delicate melodic arpeggios and heavy distortion mirrors the stark duality of Bissinger's story. Their instrumental composition balances the energy of the Guadalcanal scrimmage against the heavy reality of battlefield sacrifice, reinforcing the shared bond between these young athletes.

Music CurationGeorge Drakoulias
Music Supervisor • Track CurationGuiding the commercial track selection and needle drops is veteran music supervisor and record producer George Drakoulias. Having previously collaborated with Peter Berg on Lone Survivor and Battleship, Drakoulias brings decades of deep musical pedigree ranging from his seminal rock production work with The Black Crowes and Tom Petty to celebrated soundtrack curation across film and television.
For The Mosquito Bowl, Drakoulias pairs authentic mid-century wartime sensibilities with visceral modern selections like The Black Angels' "Young Men Dead". His curation emphasizes raw guitar energy and rugged rhythm to reflect the grit and fierce physical rivalry of collegiate football athletes thrust into the crucible of the Pacific war.
