Nonnas, now streaming on Netflix, is a warm, food-centric comedy inspired by the true story of Joe Scaravella and his unique Staten Island restaurant, Enoteca Maria, where grandmothers from around the world cook their cherished family recipes for the public. Directed by Stephen Chbosky and written by Liz Maccie, the film blends nostalgia, humor, and the universal comfort of a home-cooked meal.

The story follows Joe (Vince Vaughn), a Brooklyn native stuck in a dead-end job, who is left adrift after the loss of his beloved mother and grandmother. Seeking solace, Joe turns to the family recipes that once brought him comfort. Using his inheritance, he takes a leap of faith and buys a struggling restaurant in Staten Island, transforming it into Enoteca Maria-a place where the kitchen is run not by professional chefs, but by four Italian nonnas (grandmothers), each representing a different region and culinary tradition.

As Joe and his eclectic team of grandmothers revive the restaurant, they not only serve up unforgettable meals but also rediscover themselves and heal old wounds. The film also explores Joe’s rekindled relationship with Olivia (Linda Cardellini), a high school classmate who helps him navigate the legal and emotional challenges of his new venture. The cast also includes Joe Manganiello, Drea de Matteo and Susan Sarandon.
