Fans of gripping murder mysteries are in for a treat as “Moonflower Murders,” the highly anticipated sequel to the hit series “Magpie Murders,” is set to premiere on PBS Masterpiece on September 15, 2024. The six-episode series, based on Anthony Horowitz’s acclaimed novel of the same name, follows the story of former book editor Susan Ryeland (played by Lesley Manville) as she embarks on a new investigation. After leaving the cutthroat world of publishing behind, Susan is now living a peaceful life in Crete with her long-time boyfriend Andreas. However, her tranquility is shattered when a murder committed eight years ago at a British country hotel resurfaces. Alan Conway, a renowned author, visited the hotel and wrote a novel based on the incident. Cecily Treherne, who helps manage the hotel, read the book and believed the wrong man was arrested. Now, Cecily has disappeared, and Susan must unravel the mystery before it’s too late.
The star-studded cast includes Conleth Hill, Mark Gatiss, Pippa Bennett-Warner, and Daniel Mays, alongside returning favorites Timothy McMullan as the famous literary detective Atticus Pünd. The series is executive produced by Jill Green and Eleventh Hour Films, with Horowitz adapting the novel for the screen. BBC serves as the UK partner on the production.
“Moonflower Murders” is a co-production of Eleventh Hour Films for Masterpiece and BBC in association with Salt Films. It is distributed worldwide by Sony Pictures Television and PBS Distribution in North America. The series will air every Sunday from September 15 to October 20, 2024, on PBS Masterpiece.
