Funny Woman follows the journey of Barbara Parker, also known by her stage name Sophie Straw, as she navigates the complexities of her career and personal life in the male-dominated world of 1960s comedy.
The series finds Sophie on a high, as she is the nation’s favorite TV comedy star with a group of good friends and a promising romance with Dennis Mahindra. However, trouble soon arises as Dennis’s divorce takes longer than expected, and Sophie’s new sitcom flops. She also uncovers a devastating family secret.
To escape the turmoil, Sophie takes on a leading role in a film opposite a glamorous French movie heartthrob. The film becomes a hit, and Sophie’s new US agent offers her a fresh start in Hollywood. But Sophie returns to London, determined to create a new show that reflects her real life and challenges outdated cultural conventions.
