Few series capture the bittersweet ache of nostalgia and the power of music quite like Mix Tape, the new four-part drama streaming on Binge. Adapted from Jane Sanderson’s acclaimed novel, this series is a heartfelt exploration of love, missed connections, and the songs that become the soundtrack to our lives. Check it out every music played in each episode.
Tracklist
Mix Tape transports viewers between two timelines: the electric, rebellious energy of 1989 Sheffield and the quieter, more complicated reality of the 2020s. The story centers on Daniel and Alison, who first meet as teenagers at a house party in Sheffield. Their connection is instant, deepened by a shared passion for music, most memorably when they bond over Nick Drake’s “Northern Sky”. Music becomes their language, their secret code, and the glue that binds their blossoming romance.
But life, as it often does, intervenes. Fast-forward to the present: Daniel is a freelance music journalist still living in Sheffield, while Alison is now a novelist in Sydney, both married to other people and separated by oceans and decades. When Daniel discovers Alison’s debut novel and reaches out after years of silence, the old spark reignites. Their reconnection, built on the foundation of the mixtapes and songs of their youth, forces them to confront the question: What if the love of your life was the one that got away?
The cast of Mix Tape: Teresa Palmer (The Clearing, The Fall Guy) as Alison, Jim Sturgess (Across The Universe, Cloud Atlas) as Daniel, Florence Hunt (Bridgerton) and Rory Walton-Smith as the teenage Alison and Daniel, Ben Lawson (Bombshell, Designated Survivor) as Michael, Alison’s husband, Sara Soulié as Katja, Daniel’s wife, Julia Savage, Jacqueline McKenzie, Chika Ikogwe, Mark O’Halloran, Helen Behan, and others round out the supporting cast.

A series so deeply rooted in the emotional resonance of music demands a composer who understands both nostalgia and innovation. Enter Chiara Costanza, also known as Chiara Kickdrum, a classically trained pianist from Torino, Italy, now a prominent composer, producer, and DJ in Australia.
Costanza’s Mix Tape Soundtrack is a masterclass in mood and memory, blending subtle electronic textures with heartfelt melodies. Her music underscores the series most great moments, from the thrill of first love to the ache of regret and longing. The soundtrack album, released by Inferno Paradiso, features tracks like “Accepted”, “Goodbye” and “Together Again”, each capturing a facet of Daniel and Alison’s journey.
Mix Tape is now streaming on Binge and Foxtel Now in Australia, with a UK release coming soon on BBC platforms.
