Keir Gilchrist stars as Mortimer, an eccentric yet intelligent young man living a rather uneventful life in California’s San Fernando Valley. However, everything changes when Mortimer receives some startling news that alters his perspective on life. Determined to make the most of the time he has left, Mortimer embarks on a spirited journey to find purpose and fulfillment in his existence.
Along the way, he crosses paths with Kate, played by the talented Lucy Hale. Kate is the bright and down-to-earth operator of a dating service, and Mortimer finds himself drawn to her genuine nature. Francesca Eastwood and comedy legend Jim Gaffigan round out the impressive cast.
Running on Empty aims to be a celebration of life in the face of uncertainty. The film borrows elements from successful comedy-dramas, with quirky characters and a unique storytelling approach. However, the narrative can feel scattered at times, lacking a clear direction.
