DÌDI is a coming-of-age comedy-drama set in the nostalgic summer of 2008 that explores the life of Chris Wang, a 13-year-old Taiwanese American boy navigating the complexities of adolescence. Chris lives with his mother, Chungsing (Joan Chen), his older sister Vivian (Shirley Chen), and their grandmother Nai Nai (Chang Li Hua). As summer draws to a close and high school looms, Chris embarks on a journey of self-discovery.

He learns vital life lessons that his family cannot teach him, such as how to skate, flirt, and appreciate his mother’s sacrifices. The film poignantly portrays Chris’s struggles with identity and acceptance, as he grapples with the pressures of fitting in while also dealing with familial expectations and cultural identity.

Cast led by Izaac Wang as Chris. Joan Chen delivers a heartfelt performance as Chungsing, showcasing the challenges of a mother trying to connect with her son while dealing with her own dreams and disappointments. Shirley Chen plays the role of Vivian, Chris’s sister, who initially appears as an adversary but eventually reveals her own vulnerabilities.

Chang Li Hua adds a comedic touch as Nai Nai, representing the older generation’s expectations. The film also includes Mahaela Park as Madi, Chris’s crush, and Raul Dial as his best friend Fahad, contributing to the film’s rich tapestry of teenage experiences.
